Pervouralsk Pipe Launches New Type of Seamless Pipe for Oil Companies

The Pervouralsk Pipe plant, part of ChelPipe Group (“ChelPipe” or “the Group”), has launched a pilot version of steel seamless tubing with an F-type threaded coupling. The first batch, 259 tonnes of 89×6.5mm industrial-grade steel tubing, has been delivered to Surgutneftegaz. The next order is for 175 tonnes of 89x8mm tubing.

One particular characteristic of the tubing is the extended gauge and length of the thread. This enables it to be used in not only maintenance and technical operations at oil and gas wells in temperate and cold conditions (up to 60°С), but also hydrofracturing and various environments, including highly corrosive, where there is hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide.

The characteristics of the F-type threaded coupling improve the application of the tubing. The gauge has been extended by 0.6 mm (from 10 to 8 threads per inch) and there is no run-out (where the thread becomes smooth). Compared with standard steel tubing, this increases the thrust load in the connection by 15% and creates a tighter seal, while the lack of run-out allows repeated round-trip operations without damaging the thread. These qualities were confirmed during tests on samples at VNIITneft.

Other oil companies are also expressing an interest in the product. ChelPipe estimates that domestic demand for this type of tubing is at least 7 thousand tonnes a year, which Pervouralsk Pipe is capable of satisfying in full.
